SHPE Digital Magazine - Fall 2010

The digital version of the SHPE 2010 Fall Issue is now available


The Fall 2010 Issue of SHPE is available to all members in digital format online. You may access the issue by following thislink.

In the issue, you can read our Cover Story about NILA and the Changing Face of LeaderSHPE. You will also get a preview of the approaching Cincinnati National Conference to be held next month.

In Professional Development, a focus on Project Management Professional training will provide you with insight into how SHPE is helping members acquire valuable new skills.

BE ADVISED: No "late registration" option will be offered for the SHPE Conference 2010. Spread the word and make sure you and your members register by October 1st!!

Jeff Davies High School College Prep Series:
We need Volunteers for the Jefferson Davis High School College Prep Series on Wed. September 29th. The event is aimed at “Selecting a Major / First Steps to Applying for College”. We will be offering advising for High School Juniors and Seniors on the subject.

We will meet at SEP and carpool to Davis HS at 5:30 pm.

-The Young Engineers Leadership Summit (YELS) is on next SAT OCT 2nd @ 9AM-1PM at the University of Houston Technology building T1 in room 101. All members are invited ESPECIALLY THOSE ATTENDING THE 2010 Conference. You must RSVP at the link below in order to attend. The seminar will include practical sessions such as resume writing, communication and interviewing skills. There is no charge for this event. However, there are space limitations and registration will be required to determine logistics. Attendees will earn up to 4 PDHs.

2nd General Meeting - Live photo update

Thanks to all that come out to our meeting tonight. SHPE-UH... "We have a problem"... Glad to see we topped 100+ attendees, sorry to those that had to wait for the second round of food. Its a "good" problem for our organization to have. :-)

Our next meeting will be on Sept 30th, 7pm, Lecture Hall L2D2. Great start to the school year and remember, "Introduce a new person to SHPE, bring a friend along!"

SHPE MTG REMINDER & travel grant for Engineering Graduate Symposium.



MEETING REMINDER:

  • Travel grants are available for prospective Ph.D. students (flights/mileage, hotels, local transportation, meals).
  • More than 250 graduate engineering students will present posters on their current research projects. Prospective graduate students are encouraged to attend to learn more about our departments, faculty, graduate student research, admissions, funding and life at the University of Michigan. Also feel free to assist our effort by forwarding this email along to other engineering students and student societies, including SHPE, NSBE, AISES, SWE, etc.
  • A short online application process is involved for travel grant consideration. Junior level students will have the highest level of priority. Applicants must reside within the United States. Students should be within 1-2 years of attending graduate school and have a strong interest in research. Those who are invited to attend this fall program will have all their expenses paid. Full details can be found on the website. Students should submit their completed applications by late September:
