Good morning!

After the NASA internship presentation I gave, a student asked if there were any non-US citizen opportunities at NASA. I wasn't aware but there are a few. I was taking a look at the new NASA internship website for college/grad students and there is a link for non-US citizen opportunities and also other programs available to US citizens besides the program I talked about.

Just thought I would share.

Happy Thursday!

HENAAC Scholars Program

Dear Eduardo,

We hope the start of 2011 is setting the tone for a productive and prosperous year.  We are writing to ask that you promote to your student members a significant opportunity offered by Great Minds in STEM - the HENAAC Scholars Program.

The goals of our scholarship program are to ensure and increase college retention of students with a 3.0 grade point average or higher; guarantee college graduation with an undergraduate technical degree in four-five years; and, to contribute to Hispanic communities by producing role models for future generations; all the while securing the country's place as the finest technological leader in the world.

Last year we celebrated our ten year anniversary by awarding educational grants to over 100 STEM students.  Since our inception, the HENAAC Scholars Program has experienced tremendous growth awarding over $1 million dollars in educational grants to over 800 STEM students.  These awards are made possible through the generous support of our outstanding scholarship partners including the Northrop Grumman Corporation, Lockheed Martin, NASA, Shaw Industries Group, Cummins, NAVSEA, Verizon and the U.S. Department of Energy.

To qualify for a scholarship, applicants must be full time college students active in the Hispanic community majoring in science, technology, engineering and math with an overall grade point average of at least a 3.0.  Scholarships are presented at the annual HENAAC Conference during our Student Leadership Dinner.  In addition to their scholarship, awardees will receive financial support to travel and attend the conference where they will meet their scholarship sponsor and be able to participate in a number of rewarding networking activities.  This year's Conference will take place on October 6-8, 2011 in Lake Buena Vista, Florida at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort.

I would like to ask that you encourage any qualifying individuals to take advantage of this outstanding opportunity.  The scholarship application is now available on the Great Minds in STEM website – www.greatmindsinstem.org.  The postmark deadline is April 30, 2011.   If additional information is needed, I can be reached at (323) 262-0997, extension 300 or kbbarrera@greatmindsinstem.org.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Candidate qualifications are as follows:

INROADS APPLICATION PROCESS

One thing that we believe sets INROADS apart is that we not only provide a top-notch internship experience, we go above and beyond by helping our students with leadership and personal development skills.

A student who applies for an INROADS internship is first trained, mock interviewed and evaluated. Upon advancement in our process, the student is next matched to and interviewed by INROADS Corporate Clients who are the right fit for their interests and skills. Due to this advanced preparation that has helped our students to be successful, INROADS has been rated as one of America's Top Ten internship organizations for fifteen consecutive years (Princeton Review, Vault).

Upon receiving and accepting an internship offer, the student becomes an INROADS Intern and receives a paid summer internship ($10-$25/hour) in his/her major area of study. Scholarship opportunities, networking events, a corporate mentor and industry-specific training are additional benefits. Opportunities with INROADS are open across the U.S. and take place over 8-12 weeks, full-time in the summer. Companies for placement include Lockheed Martin, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte, KPMG, Ernst & Young, UTC, MetLife, Liberty Mutual, Target, Aldi, Limited Brands, IBM, JP Morgan Chase and others. All majors are eligible.  Students with an interest and/or experience in Accounting, Finance, Banking, Engineering, Sales, Insurance, Marketing, Business, Computer Technology, Store Management, Human Resources, Supply Chain, are highly encouraged to apply.

Date: Tue, Feb 1, 2011 at 3:30 PM
Subject: Frontier Fiesta Scholarship
To: "sam.fuentevilla@gmail.com" <sam.fuentevilla@gmail.com>

Dear SHPE:

We hope the semester is going well. As students struggle with a tough economy, scholarship information is always in high demand, therefore the Frontier Fiesta Association would like to highlight a scholarship opportunity.

The Frontier Fiesta Association is committed to providing scholarships to students that illustrate outstanding academic achievement or service to the community.  For students to be eligible for either category, they must meet all the following requirements:

1.     Applicants must attend the University of Houston in the Fall 2011 semester
2.     Applicants must submit all material in ONE envelope
3.    *NOTE* A new requirement in the application process requires basically 4 copies of each document. Hence, it is acceptable to
receive unofficial copies in order to make the application more accessible financially

To raise funds for the scholarships, our organization hosts Frontier Fiesta.  This incredible event, dating back to the 1940's, is designed to promote scholarship, community, family and education.  Each year, a part of campus is transformed into a fully functional town.  This three day event includes a Cook-Off competition, the best live music in Houston, carnival booths, special events, variety shows, and Family Fun Day. This year's Frontier Fiesta will be on March 24th-27th.

The attachment details specific requirements for each scholarship category.  The deadline for the postmark of applications and supporting material is February 14, 2011 or they can be dropped off at the front desk of the Center for Student Involvement in the University Center, Underground.  If you have questions or require additional information or materials, please do not hesitate to call us at (713) 743-5181.  A copy of the attached application in a writable PDF format can also be found at www.uh.edu/fiesta.

Thank you for your assistance,
